Renewable
Energy and
Co-Generation
Originally comprised
of five pressure-fed mills powered by single-stage turbines, each mill
had set-ratio gear-driven pressure feeders powered by the turbines.
In order to improve capacity and extraction performance, the first and
last mill pressure feeders were converted to independent drives that
included variable speed electric AC motors and gearboxes.
i.power solutions
worked in conjunction with Isis Central Sugar Mill to remove the turbines
from each mill, modify the existing foundations and drive plinths to
accommodate new electric motors and gearboxes. As Principal Contractor
for the Isis Milling Train Electrification, i.Power's role also encompassed
the design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of the
following equipment:
- Two 3500
kVA, 11kV/690 V phase-shifted drive transformers
- Mill crushing
unit variable speed drives, motors and gearboxes with power
ratings from 185 to 710 kW.
- 690 V switchroom,
690Vac motor control centre and local control and indication
panels
- All auxiliary
equipment including gearbox lubrication systems
- Civil concrete
works including foundations and drive plinths
- Expertise
in process tuning related to drive configuration

| i.power solutions' experience with milling train electrification within
the sugar industry was acknowledge following the success of similar
projects undertaken in Fiji and Bundaberg (as outlined below). This
is also supported by proven expertise in electrical switchgear,
VVVF drive application and switchroom construction. The Isis Milling
Train Electrification is not only an example of the application
of energy efficient technologies, but also of the proven and continuing
development of i.power solutions professional capabilities in this
area. |
